Artist Statement
I am part of a real collaboration that offers personal insight into their human condition, everyday life, strength and independence. Offering personal stories of their spirit and often times tragedies of their human rights. These collaborations also offer a cultural educational experience. The viewers gain a deeper and more personal insight to their thoughts, feelings and ideas.
The result of this experience can raise cultural sensitivity through awareness and education. Their freedom can be achieved by building collaborative communities with a common language, shared vision and values. Insight and education are offered through photography, art, documentary films, interviews, exhibitions, lecture series and a variety of educational materials.
These collaborations, when combined with consistent values and processes, have generated a much greater impact, which are far more sustainable, than simply visiting a remote location and returning home to write one paragraph along with a photo.
The black and white photographs are highly charged and strong in their visual impact. Strict technical form merged with my poetic vision which produce a socio-documentary realism with both documentary and portrait images.
